Safe, modern, and accessible playgrounds and learning spaces are crucial for our children’s cognitive, physical, and social development.
Our playgrounds are in a state of serious disrepair. A recent insurance report on the playgrounds cited numerous deficiencies requiring immediate removal of structures.
Our focus is to significantly improve the playgrounds, and learning spaces of Hope, Monte Vista, and Vieja Valley Elementary Schools.
Our priority is to facilitate an overhaul of the playgrounds at Hope’s three elementary schools funded from private donations in our community.
Monte Vista Elementary
When asked, "What's your favorite part of school?" most kids will answer: "Recess!" Our goal for Monte Vista is for the playground to be a reflection of our beautiful community. We want to provide a safe space for children to interact, learn, and develop. We would like to see less asphalt, and more play areas. Less hardscape, and more green open space. We envision fields without gopher holes, and play structures without rust. We want to encourage play, and create the best environment to make that happen. Every dollar donated goes directly toward this goal.

Hope Elementary
As Hope School undergoes a transformation including the addition of 5 new modern classrooms, we envision the main playground transforming as well. The objective for Hope, home to the district's Special Day Class program where students with extreme needs can receive an excellent education, is to create a fully accessible playground for the school and greater community. We envision a space where any student, regardless of physical or intellectual disability, can interact with peers while having fun and experiencing the joy of childhood. With the support of HSDEF, students are thrilled to ride along the expanded track and play on the updated structure.

Vieja Valley Elementary
The playgrounds at Vieja Valley have been transformed thanks to the help of the HSDEF Donors. Prior to the renovations, parts of the Vieja Valley upper playground were condemned and children showed up one day with playground structures blocked off with caution tape. The Vieja Valley students love the new playgrounds and, on weekends, children and families can be founding enjoying the structures.
